Kentucky has a long history of giving birth to famous and important people, from U.S. presidents to actors; from artists to athletes and everything in between. One might say that our country would not be the same without all the famous people that called Kentucky their home at one point or another and they would be right.
Today, we will be looking at 21 famous people who were born in the Bluegrass State and who are widely adored, not just by Kentuckians but the rest of the United States and the world as well.
1. Abraham Lincoln
Probably the most famous Kentuckian in the history of the United States is one of the most popular and important U.S. presidents of all time, Abraham Lincoln himself.
It almost feels like blasphemy to reduce good old Abe to a celebrity but there was simply no way for us to not include one of the biggest presidents ever on this list. The people of Kentucky probably would never forgive us if we had decided against including him.
Lincoln did so much for this country that it almost feels pointless writing about him. The man preserved the Union, abolished slavery, modernized economy and ensured that federal government comes out stronger than ever.
Lincoln was born in Hodgenville, Kentucky and he spent his childhood between Kentucky and Indiana. As far as we’re concerned, Abe was a Kentuckian through and through.
